A dental implant is a small post, usually made of titanium, that acts as a substitute for the root of your natural tooth. Another piece, called an abutment, is connected on top of the implant. The job of the abutment is to hold the last piece of the implant process which is the crown ( the part you actually see when you smile or open your mouth). The crown is fabricated to match your natural teeth.
Dental implants are the most natural looking and natural feeling replacement for missing teeth. They also keep your jawbone healthy and help prevent further bone loss that happens when someone is missing a tooth.
Many patients report that the dental implant procedure involved less discomfort than a tooth extraction. In fact, it is common for patients to say they feel a lot better than they expected after the procedure! Often, patients return to work the next day or resume their regular everyday activities. If any discomfort should occur, it typically only lasts a short time.
Many adults are good candidates for dental implants. Also, for adults, age is NOT a factor! You can’t be “too old” for implants. If you are missing a single tooth, multiple teeth, or all your teeth, you may be a good candidate. Our doctors will determine whether or not this treatment is right for you after their overall assessment.
Dental implants have been successfully placed since approx. the 1950’s. With continued technological advancements and more advanced implant materials, studies have shown long term success rates of over 90%.
Dental implants are typically the closest you can get to having your natural teeth again. After the dental implant process is complete, many patients report they can now enjoy their favorite foods again because it has not only restored their mouth esthetically but also functionally.

DR. RONAK PATEL
As a Georgia native, Dr. Patel loves serving the people of Atlanta. After graduating from Duluth High School, he achieved his undergraduate degree in Microbiology at the University of Georgia. From there he went on to complete his advanced dental training at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. To ensure his patients are always getting the best and latest treatment, he continues to work hard to master the newest techniques on the leading edge of modern dental care.
In his spare time, he enjoys working out with his wife, strolling the city with his family, cooking and eating diverse cuisines with family and friends, and attending college football games. Whenever he gets the opportunity, you might also find Dr. Patel swinging a club on a course or practicing shots on a driving range to improve his golf game.
